Biography

Belinda Parmar is a diversity campaigner, CEO of The Empathy Business, and a Non-Executive Director for the Ministry of Defence. She uses the science of empathy to change the way companies transform their organisations focusing on leadership, communications, and operations.

With her team at The Empathy Business, Belinda created of the Global Empathy Index, which was published in the Harvard Business Review using their EMBRACE model. Leveraging generative AI, they have now scaled the index to give companies an empathy ranking. Using large language models combined with sentiment analysis and
human intervention to deliver an empathy ranking for companies, the EMBRACE model quickly analyses large amounts of data and offers insights into how a company’s employees feel and the way a company communicates. In speeches, Belinda considers how to build and develop an AI tool in the workplace, which can change how emotions are measured and improve leadership at work.

Belinda works with large companies to implement hundreds of ‘nudges’ and interventions that organically build an empathy revolution and give people simple, practical ways they can create more inclusive cultures. Her focus is on belonging, diversity and creating more courageous cultures. She was Empathy-In-Residence at Barclays, Lloyds and Centrica and created the first ever Empathy Hub in Europe’s largest bank. Belinda was chosen to speak at Davos as she is a Young Global Leader for the World Economic Forum, and she is currently advising AGL in Australia.

Awarded an OBE by the Queen for her services to women in technology, Belinda was chosen as one of the top twenty Global Public Figures in Diversity and voted a top twenty Diversity Champion. She has a law degree, and a languages degree and believes that the magic in companies happens when you combine rational and emotional thinking to drive change.

Belinda is the author of Little Miss Geek which is used in schools to inspire young women to become tech pioneers and was shortlisted for Woman of the Year in the Women in IT Awards.
