Biography

Bradley Scanes is a high-performance coach who has helped Olympians achieve gold medal wins, as well as having a role in enabling the achievements of four-time Formula 1 Champion Max Verstappen. Bradley spent five years working closely with Max, helping to optimise his performance through training, psychotherapy, nutrition, recovery and sleep management.

Originally qualifying as a physiotherapist, Bradley worked in the NHS before moving into the world of elite sport performance. He held the role of Head of Medical at Southend FC, before moving into private practice. He worked with a range of athletes across sport, including boxing, UFC and professional cycling, before working with the British Olympic basketball team. He followed this with another Olympic role, working as a performance coach to the British Olympic gymnastics team. This involved him directly with Max Whitlock to help the athlete achieve World Championship glory and Olympic gold medal winning performances.

In 2019, Bradley began working with Max Verstappen. The two developed a strong partnership over the next five years, which saw the Red Bull Racing star challenge the dominance of seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, eventually winning four consecutive World Championship titles between 2021 and 2024. During this period, Bradley played a key role in helping Max with not only the intense preparation and training needed to deal with the physical demands of the sport, but also through developing and maintaining the winning mindset, motivation, resilience and communication skills that are key to success.

Now working across wider motorsport and sports categories, (including performance coaching entire teams competing in endurance events such as the Le Mans and Daytona 24 Hour races), Bradley speaks about the mindset and marginal gains that are vital to achieving high-performance, and the lessons businesses can learn from the ultra-competitive world of elite sports. He covers how to stay resilient in high-pressure situations, and talks about how communication is vital to achieving high levels of performance.
