Biography

Dr Christian Jessen is the presenter of Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies, Supersize vs Superskinny and the BAFTA-winning Embarrassing Bodies and The Ugly Face of Beauty.

Specialising in infectious diseases after his medical training, Christian spent time in Kenya and Uganda researching malaria and HIV interactions in children. He’s now in general practice on Harley Street in London and specialises in sexual health. He’s also offered advice to the oil and gas industry, London Underground, and Virgin Trains. He aims to help raise medical awareness, simplify and de-stigmatise the sometimes complicated and embarrassing world of medicine.

The regular medical advisor and columnist in Closer magazine, Christian also writes a weekly health column for the Evening Standard and has contributed his advice and insights to a wide range of print and broadcast media. He has written the television tie-in Supersize vs Superskinny: Take Control of Your Weight, and has also published Can I Just Ask?: The 250+ Curious Questions that Off-Duty Doctors Are Most Often Asked as well as titles aimed at young people, Dr Christian's Guide to Growing Up and Dr Christian's Guide to Dealing with the Tricky Stuff.

In speeches Christian looks at both the serious and the lighter sides of health and medicine. Whether it’s how to look after yourself, dispelling media myths and looking at the future of medicine and healthcare, or a tour of history’s hair-raising medical curiosities, diagnoses from art masterpieces, and even the wonder of water. He has also chaired conferences (both medical and otherwise) and hosted awards.

Christian is involved in a number of public campaigns and works closely with several charities to help identify new ways to educate people in health matters. Aside from his medical work on and off screen, he has appeared on TV programmes from Loose Women to 8 Out Of 10 Cats.
