Janan Ganesh

Janan Ganesh is a journalist, author and political commentator who considers the ideas, personalities and policies shaping the world. A biweekly columnist and associate editor at the Financial Times, he writes on international politics and global affairs, while also contributing cultural commentary for FT Weekend. Respected for his insightful analysis, Janan brings clarity and wit to complex geopolitical issues in print as well as on TV, radio and podcasts.

Prior to his global politics role, Janan was the FT’s US politics columnist, based in Washington, and later in Los Angeles, where he reported on the evolving dynamics of American power from the centre of cultural and technological influence. Earlier in his career, he served as political correspondent for The Economist, covering British politics from Westminster.

Janan began his career as a research fellow at the influential think-tank Policy Exchange, working at the intersection of policy, society, economics and public service. He co-authored the award-winning paper Compassionate Conservatism with Jesse Norman, an influential text that explored the ideology behind David Cameron’s modernised Conservative Party. He is also the author of George Osborne: The Austerity Chancellor, an acclaimed biography exploring the personal and political life of one of Britain’s most consequential recent chancellors.
