After working at banks in Japan and the UK Merryn joined The Week editing its City news before becoming the launch editor of the financial magazine. Having steered MoneyWeek to a market leading position she is now a Senior Columnist at Bloomberg and host of the chart topping Merryn Talks Money podcast. She is often seen and heard on Radio 4 and Question Time. She is the author of Love Is Not Enough: A Smart Woman’s Guide to Money, and Share Power: How ordinary people can change the way that capitalism works - and make money too. 


Biography

Senior Columnist at Bloomberg and host of the popular Merryn Talks Money podcast, Merryn Somerset Webb is an award-winning economic writer, broadcaster, and presenter. Her ability to communicate financial issues, and their wider implications in a digestible, engaging manner has marked her as one of the most popular financial writers and advisors in the UK.

Beginning her career in Tokyo as a broadcaster for NHK, she later became an equity broker. Merryn worked for a number of financial services companies including SBC Warburg and UBS until she left Japan to join UK Paribas (later BNP Paribas). She then returned to journalism and steered the city pages in The Week magazine and was the launch editor and later Editor-in-Chief of MoneyWeek, the UK’s best selling financial magazine.

In her talks, Merryn discusses the intersection between economics, social behaviour, and cultural perceptions. She covers everything from the effects of post-war births on the current economy, debt, and inflation, to investment plans, global economics and Brexit.

Merryn is a regular TV and radio commentator on economic and financial matters, appearing on Question Time and Any Questions. She has also been a regular contributor many other publications and until recently was a columnist for and contributing editor to the Financial Times. Her most recent book is  Share Power: How ordinary people can change the way that capitalism works - and make money too. 

Merryn is also an experienced non-executive director and trustee. She currently sits on the board of Blackrock Throgmorton Smaller Companies Plc.
