Since leaving her role as the CEO of Stonewall, Ruth has worked with a number of companies to build diverse and inclusive workplaces through her organisation Deeds and Words.


Biography

Baroness Ruth Hunt is the former CEO and Director of Campaigns at Stonewall, the largest LGBTQ+ charity in Europe. During her tenure at the helm of the organisation, Ruth held a key role in leading a number of landmark campaigns, which included tackling homophobia in schools and developing the Rainbow Laces campaign in partnership with the premier league. 

Since leaving Stonewall, Ruth co-founded Deeds and Words alongside her partner Caroline Ellis, where she is also a Director. Deeds and Words works with c-suite teams to understand how collective and inclusive leadership can drive organisational effectiveness and improve workplace cultures to the benefit of all.

In 2019, Ruth became the youngest cross-bench peer in the House of Lords. She is a visiting fellow at Jesus College Cambridge, and the former President of Oxford Students Union. In speeches, she brings charm and humour to the subject of leadership, reflecting on her own experience to help audiences understand how to build positive workplace cultures.

We were joined by four fantastic speakers to look ahead at International Women’s Day. With the theme of this year’s event being #InspireInclusion, we were lucky enough to hear from four women who have each blazed a trail in their respective fields: CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon; the former Australian Prime Minister and Chair of Kings’ Global Institute of Women’s Leadership, Julia Gillard; one of the leading voices in football, Eniola Aluko MBE; and broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed.
