Biography for Samantha Quek

Sam boasts a dazzling array of achievements in field hockey, the sport in which she donned the number 13 shirt as England's defender. She is recognisable as a co-anchor on BBC’s Olympic Breakfast and as a team captain on A Question of Sport.

In the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she won gold for the UK against the Netherlands in the final on a penalty shoot-out. Sam also won European Championship medals at London and Boom.

She scooped the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In the Champions Trophy in Mendoza, Sam broke two ribs in the opening game. This did not stop her playing in every game, nor did it stop her stepping in as captain in the absence of Kate Richardson-Walsh.

For all her achievements she was awarded an MBE. Her gold victory catapulted her onto TV screens across the UK, where she has since been seen hunkering down in the wild on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, competing on The Chase and Pointless, as well as feature on several panels on ITV’s Play to the Whistle.

Her autobiography is titled: Hope and a Hockey Stick.
