Sultana Tafadar KC

When Sultana Tafadar was appointed to the King’s Counsel, she became the first hijab wearing criminal barrister to have been appointed KC in the six-hundred-year history of the Bar. She is a highly experienced human rights, international law, and criminal justice barrister, advising States, NGOs, and individuals. She also advises large multi-national corporations on Diversity & Equality, and is Chair of the Bar Standard Board’s Religious & Belief Taskforce. 

​Her expertise in high profile counter terrorism and national security cases spans across the Criminal Courts, Coronial Courts, Administrative and Family Divisions of the High Court and the Appellate Courts. Sultana is part of the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Roster of Criminal Justice Sector Experts dealing with Counterterrorism; and is on Legal Advisory Panel on the People’s Review of Prevent. She advises on a range of human rights and international criminal law issues, with a particular focus on women’s and girls’ rights.

Sultana uses her personal journey and experiences to motivate audiences, inspire action and inform policy. Her message is one of resilience, focus and the ability to adapt and succeed against all odds. She has spoken at events for national and multi-national corporations, governmental and NGOs.
