Mikey Asante and Kenrick Sandy founded the urban dance company to encourage teenagers to embrace team building and storytelling. They’ve since trained 500 young people and scooped an Olivier award for their version of Pied Piper. The Guardian describe Boy Blue as ‘a full-on assault on the senses.’

Music producer Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante and choreographer Kenrick ‘H20’ Sandy founded Boy Blue to encourage teenagers to embrace dance, discipline, team building and storytelling. They have since won an Olivier and become Artistic Associates at The Barbican, and now lead the most accomplished hip hop dance company in the country.

Boy Blue first made headlines with an award-winning, Stratford East street dance production of Pied Piper, closely following the original tale. Before long they were premiering the next work, Over The Edge, appearing on primetime TV and touring the country. They are now equally at home performing short sets to corporate audiences.

In total Boy Blue comprises 30 professional dancers and a neighbourhood company of about 70. Alongside performances they also organise open classes and have so far trained over 500 young people - nurturing a wealth of talent whilst maintaining strong links to the London community from which they emerged. They even have a dedicated youth troupe, Da Bratz.

In the words of The Guardian, ‘these dancers can slot somersaults into their shows as easily as shoulder shrugs. The energy is youthful, the style is from the street, and the performers (right down to the cute young kids) are total pros. It’s a full-on assault on the senses.’
