Eddi Reader

Fee Band

The former Fairground Attraction lead singer achieved critical acclaim as a solo artist with the songs of Robert Burns. Now one of the UK’s most high profile folk artists, Eddi also performs Fairground classics.

Biography

Eddi Reader is one of Scotland's most enduring and well-loved singers. She is the winner of three Brit Awards and has a string of acclaimed albums to her name.

Growing up in a poor part of Glasgow, Eddi first took up the guitar at the age of ten and her first public performances were busking on the city’s famous Sauchiehall Street. She continued to play on the streets of London and around Europe, occasionally working with street performers and circus acts. Returning to Scotland she found work in a factory and part-time work in a recording studio.

It was via the unexpected avenue of an ad for a backing singer to join punk band Gang of Four for a one-off TV performance that led Eddi into a recording career. After a US tour with the band she returned to the UK to work as a session singer working with acts including Eurythmics, The Waterboys, and Alison Moyet.

After various bits of recording work, Eddi met singer-songwriter Mark E. Nevin and the two formed Fairground Attraction. Their first single Perfect became one of the biggest hits of the year and led to a number two album. After that, the band split and Eddi went on to release nine solo albums covering folk, soul and pop and played sell out tours world wide. She also appeared on screen singing alongside the Jools Holland Orchestra in the film Me and Orson Welles.
