Biography

Aasmah Mir is a Sony Gold Award-winning broadcaster who presents the Breakfast show on Times Radio alongside Stig Abell. Before joining The Times, she was the co-presenter of Saturday Live on BBC Radio 4 alongside Reverend Richard Coles for five years.

She has presented and reported from landmark TV events, including the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Hay Festival, and The Centenary of Votes for Women. She reported for ITV during General Elections, and co-presented Scotland Decides – ITV’s live results programme for the Scottish independence referendum.

Aasmah presented a live EU referendum debate online for the Telegraph between leading Leavers and Remainers including Boris Johnson and Alex Salmond. She also presented alongside David Dimbleby from Orkney as part of World War One Remembered: Jutland

Born and brought up in Glasgow to Pakistani parents, Aasmah graduated in law from Bristol University. At the age of twenty-two, she landed a job as a newsreader at STV in Glasgow, becoming a familiar face on Scotland Today. She produced programmes at BBC Radio Scotland and BBC London and reported for Central TV’s current affairs programme Thirty Minutes.

She then moved to Radio 5 Live, presenting Weekend News, The Midday News, and Drive with Peter Allen. The programme won a Sony Gold Award twice. Aasmah left 5 Live after eleven years and made the move to Radio 4. She also presented regularly on The World Service.

Aasmah has appeared on Celebrity Mastermind, and Celebrity MasterChef, which she then won. She reviewed the papers for ITV’s Lorraine for four years and continues to do so for BBC News.

Away from journalism, Aasmah launched Cracking Curries with her sister, a website and cookery series on YouTube, showing novice cooks how to make simple and authentic Pakistani food.
