After a long stint observing human mores and championing consumers, Esther has eventually joined Grumpy Old Women. She has also learnt French for the TV cameras, written a novel and set up Childline.


Esther Rantzen both produced and presented the long-running BBC consumer show, That's Life! She also fronted several other successful series including The Big Time, Drugwatch, Hearts of Gold and The Gift of Life.

Esther began her career as a sound effects manager in the drama department, then became a researcher and reporter for television. She went on to produce and present three programmes about child abuse, which led to her founding the charity Childline. Esther remains President of the helpline for children in trouble or danger.

Amongst her many awards are the BBC TV Personality of the Year, the RTS special judges' prize and the Richard Dimbleby BAFTA Award. She has co-authored three books: Kill the Chocolate Biscuit and Baby Love (with Desmond Wilcox) and Ben, The Story of Ben Hardwick.

Looking Ahead to International Women’s Day

We were joined by four fantastic speakers to look ahead at International Women’s Day. With the theme of this year’s event being #InspireInclusion, we were lucky enough to hear from four women who have each blazed a trail in their respective fields: CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon; the former Australian Prime Minister and Chair of Kings’ Global Institute of Women’s Leadership, Julia Gillard; one of the leading voices in football, Eniola Aluko MBE; and broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed.
