Kirsty’s TV presenting credits extend from hard news and arts review to a food quiz and documentaries on womanhood and what makes modern Scotland. She’s come close to the Celebrity MasterChef title, has appeared on Have I Got News For You, and is one of Scotland’s leading independent programme makers.

 


Biography

Kirsty Wark is a Newsnight presenter who has combined political and news coverage with a passion for arts and culture. Alongside her BBC2’s flagship news programme, she fronted its sister arts strands Newsnight Review, in addition to the channel’s annual review of the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition. As well as winning a BAFTA for broadcast journalism, she has also been one of Scotland’s leading independent programme makers.

After joining the BBC as a radio researcher, Kirsty quickly became a producer on Good Morning Scotland and the political discussion show, Order Order. After a spell on Radio 4’s World at One, she moved front of camera to present Breakfast Time, Seven Days and the youth series Words Apart. She also hosts Radio 4's radio discussion series The Reunion, which reunites groups of people from history. 

Kirsty has since covered many of the most notable events in modern Scottish history, from dramatic election results to the opening of the Holyrood Parliament. She has fronted The Book Quiz and coverage of The Proms, and documentaries covering subjects from the Suffragettes to a history of Scottish television. She has combined interviewing pop stars and Nobel laureates with cameos in everything from the Absolutely Fabulous film to Doctor Who to The IT Crowd. Kirsty also reached the finals of Celebrity MasterChef, has appeared on Room 101, Would I Lie to You? and Have I Got News For You, and is also an acclaimed novelist.

We were joined by four fantastic speakers to look ahead at International Women’s Day. With the theme of this year’s event being #InspireInclusion, we were lucky enough to hear from four women who have each blazed a trail in their respective fields: CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon; the former Australian Prime Minister and Chair of Kings’ Global Institute of Women’s Leadership, Julia Gillard; one of the leading voices in football, Eniola Aluko MBE; and broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed.
