Sandi is firmly in control of QI, and is co-presenter of Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off. An accomplished broadcaster, actor and writer of comedy, drama, fiction and non-fiction, she is also one of the co-founders of the Women's Equality Party and is the author of Girls Are Best, which shows how women have always pulled off the greatest feats and made the most important inventions.


Biography

The diminutive Dane has been wowing audiences with her caustic wit since her student days, when she appeared in Cambridge Footlights reviews. She has taken over the QI presenter’s chair following Stephen Fry’s departure and co-hosts the Great British Bake Off on Channel 4.

In a career that has taken in comedy, children’s television, acting, presenting on radio and TV, writing fiction and non-fiction books as well as plays and musicals, activism and the founding of a political party, Sandi is a true Renaissance Woman. A regular on Radio 4, she presented Excess Baggage and The News Quiz, and has frequently appeared on I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue. On television she’s been on Mock the Week, Loose Women, Time Team, Question Time, The One Show and has often returned to Have I Got News For You having appeared on the first ever episode.

Sandi has written a number of novels and children’s books, starting with
Tales From The Norse’s Mouth. She has also been successful with non-fiction, including Girls Are Best, a look at the many women of achievement that history have overlooked, Island Race, an account of her voyage around the coast of Great Britain with her friend, Excess Baggage co-presenter and former Beirut hostage John McCarthy, and The Tricky Art of Co-Existing, a guide to behaving decently in an indecent world.

Sandi has over half a dozen honorary doctorates, has been named Channel 4 Political Humorist of the Year, and Radio Broadcaster of the Year by the Press Guild.

We were joined by four fantastic speakers to look ahead at International Women’s Day. With the theme of this year’s event being #InspireInclusion, we were lucky enough to hear from four women who have each blazed a trail in their respective fields: CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon; the former Australian Prime Minister and Chair of Kings’ Global Institute of Women’s Leadership, Julia Gillard; one of the leading voices in football, Eniola Aluko MBE; and broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed.
