One of the more heartening aspects of what has been, for many of us, a rather bleak eighteen months has been an increased interest in wider diversity and inclusion that goes beyond tokenism. This has been reflected in the number of enquiries that we’ve had coming in looking for speakers with unique perspectives. Some of these speakers may actively confront the effects of discrimination in their speeches; others may bring that perspective to their areas of expertise. Regardless of how, all of them make it clear that diversity and inclusion is vital to attain a plurality of thought, which in turn creates innovative, creative and ultimately more positive workplaces.
While there are so many fantastic Diversity and Inclusion Speakers who address these themes in their speeches that it was a struggle to pick my favourites, this list of five features some of the highlights that I have seen over the last year.
As a data and behavioural scientist, author and keynote speaker, Pragya mixes research-based data in the fields of neuroscience and psychology with her lived experience to look at the underlying causes and effects of unconscious bias, and how we can challenge these biases.
An award-winning documentary filmmaker and author, David is a keynote speaker who thoughtfully considers how contemporary structural inequality exists though looking at the history of slavery and empire.
Inga’s storied career, which has included her becoming the first female CEO of Lloyds and being awarded a Damehood for her work on inclusion for women and the LGBTQ community, anchors her work as a keynote speaker. Tackling topics such as the importance of striking a balance between history and modernisation when creating change, and how to create an inclusive environment within a company.
Maggie is an inspirational keynote speaker. Recognisable as one of the country’s leading space scientists and the host of The Sky at Night, she talks about how her dyslexia is her superpower. Through telling her story, she reframes what is often considered to be a disadvantage as a strength.
A well-known face on British television, June is also an expert on diversity and inclusion, having written two books on the subject. She is also the Head of Creative Diversity at the BBC. As a speaker, she brings her warmth and expertise to her sessions, as she the benefits of diversity and inclusion for both companies as well as their employees.
