A former Political Editor of The Sun, Tom also hosted the show First Edition on TalkTV. He examines the personalities behind the headlines and considers likely events that will shape British politics, and the media and public responses to them.

Tom Newton Dunn is the former Anchor and Executive Editor of TalkTV’s evening programme First Edition. He was previously the Chief Political Commentator at Times Radio, and the Political Editor of The Sun. Tom is a regular panellist on BBC1’s Question Time.

His first job in news was as a reporter for the Telegraph’s Peterborough diary column (and where he also assisted leader writer Boris Johnson). Tom joined The Daily Mirror as a reporter before graduating to Defence Correspondent. He then took on the Defence Editor role at The Sun, covering key military stories and joining forces on the front line, before being appointed Political Editor.

Tom was a regular on Radio 4’s Week in Westminster and Any Questions?, and frequently appeared on Sky News, Good Morning Britain, and the Andrew Marr Show to comment on the headlines and review the papers.

He led The Sun’s coverage of four general elections and the Brexit referendum. For Times Radio Tom led the 2020 US Presidential election. He has interviewed six British Prime Ministers as well as President Donald Trump twice and carried out the first ever broadcast interview of a Chief of MI6. He also hosted a Tory leadership debate between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt, and a Tory leadership husting between Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak

Tom has ghost written two military biographies and has won awards for his coverage of political and defence stories. He delivers an insightful, entertaining look behind the scenes of Westminster, the personalities and the stories making the headlines. Tom considers the likely events and changes in an unprecedented political climate of disruption and division, as well as the media’s role in both shaping and covering the news.
