Barry & Stuart

Fee Band

The Scottish BAFTA-nominated stars of The Magicians specialise in the macabre (rather than just plucking rabbits out of hats). The tricks are dark, twisted and sometimes bloody: expect sharp knives, cheese wire and the sort of minds that turned a man into a pillar of salt for Tricks From The Bible.

Barry and Stuart are BAFTA-nominated comedy magicians, and winners of the Best Comedy Illusionist award at the World Magic Awards. They induce seances, cut their arms off with kitchen knives, and swallow audience members’ phones - only to then claw through their own stomachs to miraculously retrieve them.

The stand-out stars of BBC1’s The Magicians, Barry & Stuart are known for their trademark dark and stylishly funny performances, producing ‘baffling illusion and gothic spectacle’ (Chortle).

The duo, originally hailing from Aberdeenshire, made their television debut with the Channel 4 series Magick, closely followed by Dirty Tricks, which was nominated for a Golden Rose at Lucerne in 2006. They caused a national outcry with their Christmas and Easter TV specials - The Magic of Jesus, and Tricks from the Bible - in which the pair visited Egypt to walk on water, raise the dead, and even make a virgin pregnant.

Their three Edinburgh shows have all been sell-out critical successes, and they continue to tour the UK and abroad. They have also created a series of short interactive films in collaboration with the BBC, in which they display and teach psychic powers.

Looking Ahead to International Women’s Day

Samira Ahmed, Eniola Aluko, and Alex Mahon

We were joined by four fantastic speakers to look ahead at International Women’s Day. With the theme of this year’s event being #InspireInclusion, we were lucky enough to hear from four women who have each blazed a trail in their respective fields: CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon; the former Australian Prime Minister and Chair of Kings’ Global Institute of Women’s Leadership, Julia Gillard; one of the leading voices in football, Eniola Aluko MBE; and broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed.
