Alex once scoured London for all 192 nationalities, before trying his hand at competitive ornithology. He now leads the inimitable Horne Section.

Biography

Alex Horne’s break into comedy came after winning a competition to write a joke for a Christmas cracker. He has since secured a Perrier nomination, toured the country with various luminaries, and created critically acclaimed game show Taskmaster.

Alex bases his act on bizarre but true adventures, weaving his tales together with wonderful one-liners and inspired puns. He has spent a month with llamas, told jokes in Latin in Britain’s Roman towns, scoured London in an effort to find someone from each of the 192 UN member states, and attempted to break the world record for eating bananas. He also one of the few comedians in the world to turn birdwatching into an entire Edinburgh show. Alex’s latest endeavour is to become the world’s oldest man with his ‘Long Live Alex’ project.

Often collaborating with fellow performers (and Cambridge Footlights alumni) Tim Key and Mark Watson, Alex provided sounds and graphics on the trio’s surreal celebrity quiz We Need Answers on BBC Four. He’s also showcased his beatboxing skills on Dave’s One Night Stand, his knowledge on Celebrity Mastermind, and his word skills on Countdown.

Alex also regularly leads his band The Horne Section in improvised musical comedy combined with audience interactive games and special guests. He’s also been known to don the guise of a ‘trainer’ in what he calls an International Body Language Seminar. Armed with pseudo-psychological theories, he takes disbelieving delegates through a terrifyingly awful PowerPoint presentation followed by a corporate singalong – designed to ensure everyone stays ‘on message’ in the comedy of life.
