Dane was nominated for the Edinburgh Fringe Best Newcomer award in 2014 and as such became the first black British performer to be nominated. With witty one-liners and engaging tales, he tells of the hardships of being born in the 80s (before you could pause TV), whilst also covering subjects from teachers to politics.

Nominated for the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe Best Newcomer Award (the first black British performer to be nominated), standup star Dane Baptiste was described as ‘a comical genius’ by the Edinburgh Festival Magazine. He’s now a regular on TV and radio, a writer, podcaster, and a hit on the live stage.

Born in South-East London, Dane reflects on relationships, his twin sister, the state of modern manhood and how to get out of drinks with your colleagues. Clever, likeable and polished, he draws in any audience with his relaxed, conversational style covering everything from teachers to the tooth fairy. He combines his look at everyday life with sometimes provocative material on subjects like race, politics and mental health, refecting his personal experience, interests and versatility. The Guardian described him as “equipped with the quiet confidence you only get from knowing that you’ve got gags to reduce any audience to hysterics” and The Independent said that his was "‘observational comedy at its finest’".

Dane also hosts his popular podcast Dane Baptiste Questions Everything, in which he explores everything from science to society to the greatest female vocalist of all time. As well as success at clubs and festivals around the world, Dane wrote and starred in his own BBC sitcom Sunny D, and has appeared on shows including 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo, as well as celebrity editions of Mastermind, Pointless and The Chase.

Looking Ahead to International Women’s Day

Samira Ahmed, Eniola Aluko, and Alex Mahon

We were joined by four fantastic speakers to look ahead at International Women’s Day. With the theme of this year’s event being #InspireInclusion, we were lucky enough to hear from four women who have each blazed a trail in their respective fields: CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon; the former Australian Prime Minister and Chair of Kings’ Global Institute of Women’s Leadership, Julia Gillard; one of the leading voices in football, Eniola Aluko MBE; and broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed.
