The former Aston Villa and Chelsea midfielder is regularly seen as a pundit on ITV’s football coverage, but is remembered by many for his role leading Ireland’s spirited runs in the 1990 and 1994 World Cup campaigns.


Biography

The former Republic of Ireland captain is now a familiar face as a pundit on ITV’s FA Cup, Champions’ League and international coverage.

With a twenty-year club career behind him, the undoubted highlight of an impressive career was Andy leading Ireland into the knockout stages of the 1990 and 1994 World Cups in Italy and the United States. Known as a gritty, determined but flexible midfielder, Andy typified the Republic’s spirit as Jack Charlton’s team battled amongst the game’s world elite.

A winner of 70 caps and captain of his country a record number of times, Andy also made over 600 professional club appearances. the majority of them for Chelsea and Aston Villa. Whilst at
West Bromwich Albion, injury forced Andy to retire 20 years after his debut for Welling United.

Since retirement, Andy has been a regular fixture on TV and radio coverage, mainly on ITV and TalkSport, but also on Radio 5Live. He also works as a property consultant and has advised companies planning to invest in football. Andy is a patron of the George Coller Memorial Fund, for whom he has run the Great North Run.

Looking Ahead to International Women’s Day

We were joined by four fantastic speakers to look ahead at International Women’s Day. With the theme of this year’s event being #InspireInclusion, we were lucky enough to hear from four women who have each blazed a trail in their respective fields: CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon; the former Australian Prime Minister and Chair of Kings’ Global Institute of Women’s Leadership, Julia Gillard; one of the leading voices in football, Eniola Aluko MBE; and broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed.
