The Bonhams director and BBC Antiques Roadshow expert passes around a number of unfamilar objects and invites guests to estimate their age, use, country of origin and potential saleroom value. Eric is just as comfortable with small groups or large gatherings – with tables playing as teams combining novices and antiques enthusiasts. Whatever their nationality or level of knowledge, every participant will find it a hugely entertaining and enriching experience.

In his day job the Antiques Roadshow expert is a Director of Bonhams, responsible for many of the more unusual auctions from spectacles to coffin plates. He also has a rare gift for story telling, sharing his knowledge in a way that both enlightens and makes audiences crease with laughter.

Eric is a leading authority on l9th and 20th century decorative arts, especially Tiffany and Lalique glass. He has written and contributed to books and magazines, appeared on Going for a Song, showed off his verbal dexterity on Countdown’s Dictionary Corner and popped up on Crimewatch - but only to comment on stolen property.

As well as after-dinner speaking, Eric can host a highly entertaining and informative game. Passing around a number of real antiques, from clocks to pictures and oddities, he challenges guests to work out each object’s age, use, country of origin and likely price in the saleroom. No matter what your knowledge of the antiques market, Eric brings the pieces to life.

The game has been devised to work in a variety of formats, for audiences from thirty to one thousand. It can be played independently or around tables as a team exercise - in which those who think they know all the answers are often proved wrong. Where there has been advance notice, Eric is also happy to value anything guests may bring along.

We were joined by four fantastic speakers to look ahead at International Women’s Day.
