Eddie Jordan

Eddie Jordan is a former racing driver turned businessman and founder and owner of the Jordan Grand Prix team. He also is an analyst on BBC’s Grand Prix coverage.

Irish-born Eddie started his career as a clerk at the Bank of Ireland. During a strike in Dublin, he went on holiday to the island of Jersey, where he witnessed and took part in a kart race for the first time. It was the start of a lifelong relationship with racing. He returned to Dublin, bought a kart, won his first season in the Irish Kart Championship and moved on to Formula Ford. He broke both legs in a crash, but soon returned the following season. Just a year later he founded his first team, Eddie Jordan Racing taking part first in UK races, then in European Formula 3, and then Formula 3000. Just over a decade after starting the team, he broke into Formula One.

Eddie’s team quickly gained an admirable reputation amongst the smaller teams of F1 and provided Michael Schumacher with his Formula 1 debut in the team's debut season. The team would continue to compete in the sport for next decade with drivers including Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher, and at their peak providing Heinz-Harald Frentzen with the car which saw he become a genuine contender for the championship. Although ultimately finishing third, it was best placing ever of a Jordan driver.

The team continued despite technical and sponsorship problems but never retained the heights of that season. Sixteen years after starting the team, Eddie sold it where is continues today under the guise of Force India.

Eddie is now one of three key presenters of the BBC’s Grand Prix coverage alongside Jake Humphrey and David Coulthard. He is involved in a number of investment companies as well as others in the technology and drink sectors.

At events, Eddie likes to finish of speeches with a rendition from one of his bands, FTB or Eddie & the Robbers.
