After winning a Sony for Asian Beats, Nihal hosted specialist and primetime Radio 1 slots. He’s now a regular on TV and on Radio 5 live and joined the team covering the Tokyo Olympics.

 


Biography

Nihal co-hosts the weekday afternoon show on Radio 5 Live, and is best-known for his time as a DJ on Radio 1 and the BBC Asian Network. He writes regularly for various music publications and sits on the Board of the Southbank Centre in London. He was one of London 2012’s Cultural Ambassadors and joined the team hosting the Tokyo olympics.

Nihal has been passionate about music all his life and now hosts his own regular clubnights and performs at festivals across the UK. He hosts the BBC’s annual Big Conversation event, the Asian Business Awards and often stands in as host on The Wright Stuff. He has been responsible for the music at the London New Year’s Eve fireworks display, and is equally at home interviewing Boris Johnson as he is major hip-hop stars.

Nihal was on the Board of the British Council for six years, and worked for several years as Elton John’s publicist. He co-hosts the weekday afternoon show on Radio 5 Live and is a Tottenham Hotspur fan.

We were joined by four fantastic speakers to look ahead at International Women’s Day. With the theme of this year’s event being #InspireInclusion, we were lucky enough to hear from four women who have each blazed a trail in their respective fields: CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon; the former Australian Prime Minister and Chair of Kings’ Global Institute of Women’s Leadership, Julia Gillard; one of the leading voices in football, Eniola Aluko MBE; and broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed.
